How did you meet?
It started with a swipe! Adam and Kara went on their first date on August 16, 2022 sharing tacos and margaritas at Big Star in Wicker Park.
What is your favorite way of spending time together?
Adam and Kara love to travel, spend time with family and friends, being outdoors (in warm weather), visit breweries and wineries, play with Huey, and of course, spend time in their favorite city, Chicago.
How did you get engaged?
Adam and Kara got engaged on December 13, 2024, in Sedona, AZ. Unbeknownst to Kara, Adam had been planning the proposal multiple times before this weekend, but Kara kept filling up their calendar with plans.
Adam and Kara traveled to Phoenix to spend time with Adam's family. With both of them in "busy season" at work, they decided to spend a day in Sedona (one of their favorite cities) to hike, soak in the red rocks, and breathe in the fresh air.
Adam made sure they were up early Friday morning to avoid the crowds and hike the Boynton Canyon Trail. Last time they did this trail, there was snow and ice, and Kara chickened out on going up in the Subway Cave, which requires you to army crawl up into a cave. This trip she was determined to do it! Of course when they started the trail, Kara wanted to stop to take photos and take in nature. Adam was all about the hike and moving along.
They arrived at the Subway Cave (2.5 miles into the hike) and props to Adam for making sure they arrived early, because there were only a few people at the cave. It's a popular spot, so there can be a long line to climb up. Adam and Kara, along with another couple, successfully climbed up into the cave! Kara was so excited she was running all over the place, snapping photos and taking in the views. Adam, not a fan of heights, was making sure he didn't fall. While Kara was out on the ledge (standing farther out than Adam preferred) taking photos of the landscape, he proposed. Kara was genuinely surprised as Adam showed her the engagement ring he had designed. The other couple noticed what was happening and took a video of the proposal. As soon as the photos were taken, Adam said to Kara, "you have to take off the ring now, so you don't lose it on the rest of the hike." They climbed down the cave and continued on with their hike. With zero cell service and more hikes to go, they were able to enjoy the bliss together!
The cherry on top was that Adam's sister and brother-in-law, Allison and Mike, were also in Sedona celebrating Allison's birthday. Adam had not told anyone his plan, so they were surprised when Adam and Kara called them with their engagement news. The rest of the day included wineries, dinner and celebrating together.
Why did you decide on a destination wedding?
The question Adam and Kara get the most is "where are you traveling to next?" With their love of travel and family and friends scattered all over the US, they knew they wanted to host a destination wedding where they could spend a weekend with their favorite people.
